The analysis was based on regional soil maps, the National Atlas of the Republic of Kazakhstan, published studies on soil morphology and properties, and the fourth edition of WRB (2022). More than 30 national classification units and eight soil complexes identified within the region were compared with corresponding WRB reference soil groups and qualifiers. The main zonal soils were correlated with Calcic Chernozems (Pachic), Calcic Chernozems, Gypsic Kastanozems (Humic), Gypsic Kastanozems, Calcisols, and Luvic Calcisols, while the principal intrazonal soils corresponded to Fluvisols, Gleyic Chernozems, Gleyic Kastanozems, Solonetz, and Technosols. The most widely applicable supplementary qualifiers were Aric, Sodic, and Endoprotosalic, with Katocalcic, Skeletic, Hyperhumic, Salic, and Urbic used for specific profile features. The dominant soil groups were identified for all 16 districts of the Kostanay Region. The proposed WRB-based nomenclature provides a standardized basis for soil mapping, monitoring, agricultural assessment, and international comparison of regional soil data.
